What is WPC?
Wireless Planning and Coordination is part of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. WPC grants amateur radio licences and regulates the frequency spectrum. WPC is also authorised for WPC ETA Certification and other wireless certifications.
Some of the WPC approvals
A valid ISP license is essential for every business that wants to offer Internet services in India. Accordingly, ISP licenses have been separated into three classes based on the coverage area and range size. Category A ISP licences cover all of India. Category B includes 20 TTCs and 4 metros. Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore are also included. Category C includes secondary Switching Areas, as specified by the DOT (SSA)
For a manufacturer to operate in the delicensed frequency band, they must receive a WPC ETA certificate for products like Smart TV, Wifi router, Wireless POS terminal, Wireless mouse, Bluetooth headset etc.
This licence is given to the company so that they are allowed to import the products into India. In accordance with this, each licence comes with a quota that determines the maximum amount of goods that may be brought into the country.
Wireless dealers and distributors receive DP licences. This licence prohibits people and corporations from having, selling, or transferring wireless devices or lookalike equipment to others without a valid licence.
You must get an experimental license in order to perform an experiment on wireless equipment that requires a network license. You must have the DPL license in order to obtain the experimental license.
Why do we need a WPC license?
The operation of any type of radio-frequency enabled equipment requires approval. This is carried out to guarantee the safety and security of the products. Any radio-frequency equipment imported into India would require a separate clearance from the WPC department. This body would ensure that the service provider met all licencing requirements.
